Formatted JSON will appear here...Make JSON easier to read and check
DevBankTools helps developers, testers and API engineers inspect JSON responses, configuration files and test data. Paste JSON or open a local file to check its syntax and produce readable or compact output. No signup is required.
What is a JSON formatter?
Format JSON adds line breaks and two-space indentation so nested objects and arrays are easier to follow. The output highlights keys and values to help you inspect the structure.
What is a JSON validator?
A validator checks whether your text follows JSON syntax. The input status checks this as you edit. If formatting or minifying fails, the error dialog helps locate syntax problems with line and column information. This checks JSON syntax, not an API contract or JSON Schema.
Minify JSON
Minify JSON removes unnecessary whitespace outside strings to produce compact output. Use it when you need a smaller text representation for a request body or configuration value.
How to format and validate JSON online
- Paste your document into Input JSON, open a file, or select Load Example.
- Check the input validation status. Formatting also validates the document and reports syntax errors.
- Select Format JSON for readable output or Minify JSON for compact output.
- If an error appears, review its location, correct the input and try again.
- Review the Output, then copy or download it.
Common JSON formatting errors
Check for trailing commas, missing commas or colons, unmatched braces or brackets, and unclosed strings. JSON requires double quotes around property names and string values; single quotes and comments are not valid JSON. Inside strings, escape a quotation mark or backslash with a backslash.
Privacy and local processing
This formatter reads selected files and processes JSON in your browser. It does not send your JSON to a server for formatting, validation or minification.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between formatting and validating?
Validation checks whether the text follows JSON syntax. Formatting also checks validity, then presents the parsed data with indentation and line breaks.
Should I format, minify or validate my JSON?
Validate when you only need to check syntax. Format for readable, indented output, or minify for compact text. Both output actions require valid JSON; neither verifies that a server will accept the data.
Can the tool fix every invalid JSON document?
No. Auto Fix is offered for certain syntax errors, but ambiguous or missing values need your judgment. Review any suggested correction before using the output.
Will formatting preserve my JSON exactly?
The tool parses and serializes JSON using JavaScript. Whitespace and number notation can change, duplicate object keys are not preserved, and very large integers may lose precision. Represent identifiers that require exact digits as strings in your source data.
